翌日当該USBメモリがなかったことから紛失が発覚。同学生は駅や周辺の捜索を行い、警察署に遺失物届を提出したが発見できず、現在も捜索中である。同大は、当該参加者及び共同研究社である株式会社ELT健康増進研究所にお詫びと説明を行った。当該USBメモリ及び保存されたデータにはセキュリティ対策は施されておらず、本来ならば当該データは匿名化することが決められており、また学生がデータを扱うことは承認されていなかったが、どちらも守られていなかった。現時点において、個人情報が悪用された事実は確認されていない。
